Ravens linebacker and fiancée reach child custody agreement

Baltimore Ravens linebacker and 2011 NFL Defensive Player of the Year Terrell Suggs recently settled a custody issue with fiancée Candace Williams, marrying her several days later. The couple appeared in court with their attorneys to establish a global resolution agreement regarding child support, child custody and visitation. However, the details of that agreement were sealed at the request of Suggs and Williams.

Prior to the agreement, Williams removed a temporary protective order she had filed against Suggs after he allegedly punched her in the neck and dragged her from a car as he drove away with their two children. After the filing of the order, Maryland law required Suggs to forfeit seven firearms to police, with which the five-time Pro Bowl participant voluntarily complied. His attorney denies that the altercation described in the protective order ever occurred and explained that Williams had the order revoked voluntarily.

Representatives with the Baltimore County police say they received two 911 calls from Suggs’ home the day after Williams filed the protective order, but explained that they did not take reports of those calls. Suggs never faced any criminal charges after the order was filed and his attorney reiterated that the court did not find evidence of any crime occurring.

Williams filed a protective order against Suggs after an apparent domestic dispute in 2009 and named him as the defendant in a $70 million lawsuit, but later removed the order and dropped the claim after the couple reconciled.

According to a post on Suggs’s Facebook page, he and Williams were married four days after reaching their child custody agreement. Suggs’ attorney told the Baltimore Sun that the couple had resolved their personal issues and were committed to moving forward in the best interests of their two children.
