A divorce is often more complicated than it sounds

Have you come to the conclusion that you want to end your marriage? If so, you know one thing to be true: You don’t want the process to drag on for too long.

Unfortunately, many people believe that divorce is a simple process that can be completed within a couple of weeks. While there are steps you can take to move forward in an efficient manner, you need to realize that challenges can and probably will arise along the way.

First off, you need to know that there are two distinct types of divorce available to residents of Maryland: an absolute divorce and a limited divorce.

A limited divorce does not bring an end to the marriage or deal with issues of property division. That said, it does give the court the ability to step in and determine matters related to child custody, child support, and alimony.

An absolute divorce, however, can do all of the above while also dealing with the distribution and separation of property.

It doesn’t matter why you want to move forward with divorce, from a voluntary separation to cruelty of treatment, you need to know what’s expected of you and how to take the right steps.

At our law firm, we know that the divorce process can be both messy and time consuming. Fortunately, we have the knowledge and experience necessary to help our clients put this in the past.

A divorce is often more complicated than it sounds, but that doesn’t mean you should hold off if you realize that this is the best decision for you.
