Do these things when addressing divorce with your child

It goes without saying that the divorce process can be extremely difficult for both individuals. However, when you add a child to the mix, it can be even more challenging.

While it is never easy to discuss divorce with a child, there are things you can do to make this easier. Here are a few tips to follow:

-- Both parents should sit down with the child together. Don't have a separate conversation with your child about the divorce and what this means to their future.

-- Have an idea of what you will say. Being that this is an extremely important conversation, it's essential to have a clear idea of what you will say and do. Along with this, make sure you and the other parent are on the same page.

-- Expect everything. You never know how your child will react, so make sure you're ready for anything that could come your way.

-- Answer any and all questions. As difficult as it may be, it's imperative that you answer any question your child may have. If you don't, it will only make things worse on him or her in the future.

There is nothing simple about addressing divorce with your child, but once you get this out of the way you will feel much better about what the future will bring.

You have a lot to think about as your divorce moves forward, but nothing should stand in the way of providing your child with the guidance and love he or she needs during this extremely difficult time.
